Just wanted to write a little message expressing our happiness with the training we received through the Kings County K-9 Obedience (now UPK9) Program. When we started the training with our wonderful Golden Retriever she had a long way to go. We were wondering if this dog would ever calm down long enough for our daughter to enjoy the love of having a pet. Well, guess what she did!!! Our daughter now expects Kyia (our dog) to do everything with her and Kyia even listens to her. Kyia is obedient when ANYONE speaks to her. We are especially proud of the training she obtained in the group sessions as well. It is amazing to see her and watch her reaction when other people or dogs pass us on our walk-there is NO reaction!!!!! This is good. All other dogs run towards her, growl, and barks but Kyia does not even flinch just continues on walking.
We cannot thank UPK9, especially Duke, for the great training, patience, and support with Kyia. She is now a fun, yet still excitable, loving family addition.

Hello Duke, I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with Gatsby’s progress and your training. We are most fortunate to have you (KCK9 Academy) on Prince Edward Island and your wealth of knowledge..
Gatsby was about 9 months old when I purchased him. He was full of puppy energy and extremely strong. I would try to walk him with Bogart, who is in his 13th year. Gatsby would lunge at every dog we met on our walks, literally pulling me with him or he would run in front of me and trip me. If I let him off leash in the Park he would run away to play with other dogs and would only come to me at his convenience. Not to mention the portable phones and art books he chewed while he was given the run of my home when I went out. Now, he walks beside me, no more lunging or pulling me off my feet, and he is lavished with compliments “what a well behaved dog” every day by people we meet on our walks. He also plays off leash daily at the Park and comes the moment he is called even if he is engaged in a game with his buddies . He will go to “His Place” about 300 feet away from where he is given the command at the Park and sits until he is called, and no more chewing phones and books.. Thanks to your training.
I must confess, I had real reservations about using a “remote collar”, but when I saw how well trained my neighbors three dogs were and they had nothing but high praise for you and your training I was sold. Now, I realize how much easier, effective, and humane way it is to train a dog rather then the way I trained Bogart 12 years ago(before your company existed) using a choke collar/halty and lead. I am really surprised with how much Bogart is learning now from Gatsby. They are both males and get along beautifully.
I am very pleased with what we have accomplished over the past several months Duke and although we have lots to learn, I look forward to strengthening the bond with Gatsby through our training.

Chinook has turned into a great dog. At first I did not want to let him outside of my control for training but Kelly was wise and could see where this aggressive dog was going. You have helped to make him a great pet and a wonderful buddy for Kelly and I. Well appreciated. I can take him anywhere. We have traveled to NB, NS, and NFLD with Chinook and stayed in cabins and hotels as well as on the NFLD Ferry and of course in the kayak. He is 10 months old and doing great.

Transformed NS Duck Tolling Retriever!!!
Dear Duke,
I have witnessed a miracle! Maddie, my 3 year old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever has been transformed. People who knew Maddie before she was “Duked” now use adjectives such as unbelievable, unreal, amazing, awesome, and “is that really the same dog?”
Maddie used to be dominate, assertive, harassing, controlling, noisy and objectionable. She sounds terrible but while being all of the above she was really only high energy and in many ways delightful.
After just 3 weeks of training Maddie was a changed dog. However, the start was difficult with Duke admitting that Maddie was one of the more stubborn dogs he had seen … so after our first lesson I was on my own and a great battle for control began between us and honestly for the first couple of days I really thought Maddie was going to win. By our second lesson with Duke, just one week later progress had been made. And then one day Maddie conceded, I had control and our relationship strengthened and a bond was finally there.
Maddie is now totally obedient and the thing I notice most is the change to her personality … she no longer barks when she wants something, she doesn’t harass my guests to play Frisbee, she is quiet (in fact I have never been able to teach her the quiet command because she doesn’t bark when she shouldn’t), she doesn’t chase cars any more and she has stopped barking at doors which was her most annoying quirk.
Maddie and I are grateful to Duke and his training techniques … Maddie is now a real pleasure to live with and harmony reins … many thanks!

I want to thank you for all the work you have done in helping me to train princess. It is greatly appreciated. After two weeks I could see a big difference in her. As you know, she is a strong willed dog, but through your training, I have been able to gain the control I need to handle her. It took some time, but she knows her place in the family, and is content, and always looking for ways to please. You have my highest recommendation, and I have told numerous friends about your work. I called Duke from Ontario where I had been in some variation of clicker training with my dog Massi for a year. I had one month in PEI, which would be the deciding month for my husky cross, who was a rescue. A veterinarian had told me that the dog should have only been adopted to experienced dog owners. I felt experienced having had dogs my whole life. Now I had a 1-2 year old abused husky that was developing leash aggression and was still shy around strangers. I was not confident she could be rehabilitated into my lifestyle.
Duke answered my call promptly and to the delight of many, he actually listened to my plight, and understood that I was “clickered out”. He also understood my time constraints and adapted the program so that I could achieve my goals with Massi. Duke’s friendly chit chat, I realized in time, was actually his way of finding out what the dog (and I) had been up to between sessions…and he would call me on some of the things he felt I could do better.
Training dogs, and their owners, requires a high degree of organization and preparation as well as the ability to give clear and concise instructions. Able to adapt to constant changes in temperament of both Massi, and myself, while offering creative solutions to a variety of situations that the dog came into while on the island, Duke proved himself. He is a take-charge person and carries out his role confidently and with the ability to look at the big picture. I am grateful for all Duke accomplished over the course of a month. I would not hesitate to recommend Duke and Kings County K9 Academy (now UPK9), and do so with the knowledge that any task he is asked to do will be handled efficiently and with the individual dog and owner in mind.
