I started Duke Ferguson’s Dog Training Genesis on line video training course with my 18 month old dog. My dog is a Hungarian wire haired Vizsla. I am training him to be a hunting dog to compete in hunting tests. He did have some kind of basic obedience skills before we started all this. But not steady or to a high level needed for competing in these tests.

Duke Ferguson gives you all the tools, knowledge and skill to train your dog successfully. It is your job as a dog owner to be consistent in your training and to find a good balance in your dog’s working attitude (keep him happy while training). Dukes training style does exactly that. My main focus was on steadiness on one hand and swift responses on commands on the other hand. And this should all be off-leash. While Duke´s program is not a specific hunting dog training program, I found it of no trouble to adapt Duke´s techniques to train a hunting dog. The same principles applied. After a mere 3 months of training, we entered last weekend our very first hunting working test. 45 other dogs entered as well. The goal in this competition is getting all 10 retrieves while the dog remains perfectly steady and off-leash all the time. No barking or peeping is allowed. Touching your dog is a no-no too.

Handling your dog with whistle and hand signals is a must. Result; while my dog was the youngest! dog competing and only 7% of the dogs got all 10 retrieves, my little guy left all the other dogs thinking…. He finished 1st. You can imagine how proud I am of my little guy! Thank you Duke for giving me the right direction.

We have a 2.5 year old Yorkie named Sully. We did puppy class with Duke Ferguson, who shared a ton of knowledge with us.  Over time we let our training slide, but we are back on top since we did Duke’s board and train program. I remember dropping Sully off the first day, feeling guilty and nervous, but I was told  “you won’t regret it…no one ever does.”

Our lifestyle involves a lot of travel, and flying with Sully.  Before the training Sully was embarrassing and unbearable to take with us so this was our main goal in our assessment meeting with Duke. We needed Sully to go in his airplane bag and be quiet on the plane. We also wanted to have Sully come when called, walk beside us without pulling on the leash or even have no leash, and different tasks such as not begging for food at the dinner table, greeting people at the door or on the street properly.

Our expectations were exceeded!! We cannot express how impressed and pleased we are with Sully after spending a month with Duke. Our family and friends, people we run into on the streets, and ourselves cannot believe the change in Sully. We recently flew to Croatia, in total a 15 hr journey….Sully was a pleasure to travel with, calm and quiet the whole flight.

The Dog Training Genesis video training program Duke has created is also amazing and a great resource to have to help us stay educated on how to work with and train Sully.

Since having Sully home, Duke has been very patient in teaching us the skills and theory to keep up the progress when we asked him. We have the privilege to attend Unleashed Potential’s Ultimate Obedience Group class every week, and it is now enjoyable to participate and to go in public with Sully because of progress he has made.

Duke Ferguson and his team of Unleashed Potential Dog Trainers are AMAZING DOG TRAINERS!

The amount of knowledge and information Duke has is fascinating and we are so lucky to have him on P.E.I. We highly recommend Duke and Unleashed Potential to all dog owners. Duke we said it before and we’ll say it again…thank you for everything, we are forever grateful.

Rescued Husky Has Unleashed Potential In Bridgewater NS

Rescued Husky has life saving training success!

Itzy is a small energy packed, strong minded Husky mix from SHAID, bought home at ten months old she quickly showed us that she was crazy on leash, ran away from home at every opportunity, had no recall, barked constantly and was destructive in the house and full of nervous and anxious energy, she hardly ate and I realized how stressed out she was not understanding what was expected of her in her new pack.

I had previously clicker trained my other dog (a Lab) and he is good but not perfect, Itzy was responding to some things I taught her but other things seemed out of reach for me, by chance I found out about Unleashed Potential,

 Itzy started to learn focus and began almost immediately to settle down, her anxiousness disappearing, we could see the fun loving cheeky little dog she is and the stress levels in our house were replaced with a feeling that we did the right thing adopting her, she is the sort of dog that loves to be exercised not just physically but mentally too and the training gave her that focus she needs, our walks stopped being sabotaged by bad behavior and are now a pleasure, with a dog that I was told would never be able to walk off leash now running freely by my side and playing with my other dog, I can breathe easy knowing she wont end up in the road by accident as she has recall now.

I cannot overstate how happy I am that I found  Unleashed Potential and the sense of security and trust it has given me with both my dogs.  I now have Happy obedient dogs.

Hound dog off leash chasing scents and coming back when called!

I adopted a rescued hound dog just over 3 years ago. The two of us made good progress together. However, I could not always trust him to return off leash. Scents are his strong focus. Unleashed Potential k9 training helped to make off leash walks possible. I am able to give him the freedom to run in the woods and know that he will return when we are out for a walk. He also had occasional aggressive tendencies that we have also been able to bring under control. Our relationship is stronger and we are both happier. Thank you Unleashed Potential!

Ina, my 3-year-old GSP (German shorthaired pointer), is an energy packed dog who will run around outside all day long and not crash until the sun is down. Since having her as an 8-week-old puppy, she has always been somewhat obedient, but I always knew she wasn’t reaching her full potential. Ina is easily distracted from everything to grasshoppers, butterflies, and especially birds. I always struggled with Ina focusing on me, no matter what environment she was in. I consider myself an active person and I have always enjoyed having her off-leash to play fetch or to go on long hikes at Kejimkujik National Park. However, Ina was very hard to control on a leash and I started to avoid taking her to new environments where I knew she would be easily excited and distracted. Trips to a new park or even to the vet were things I started to dread. No matter what I tried and how long our walks were, I could never get her to stop pulling on her leash. I knew that the obedience issues I was facing with her were taking away from both her life and mine.

I had always been on the search for knowledgeable and qualified dog trainers along the South Shore, but I never found anyone that came with raving reviews. By chance I stumbled upon Unleashed Potential . I loved everything! I read about their dog obedience services and opted to give it a try. Since I started working with Unleashed Potential I have seen a huge transformation in Ina. I am now able to enjoy my dog much more than I ever have before. The training was beyond my expectations.  Heeling was something that I never thought I could possibly get Ina to do. However, I can now take Ina for a walk and even a run with her heeling, no matter what insects or animals are around, or who we come across.  Ina is focused on me and will recall even with distractions. The dread of not being able to control Ina when she is excited in a new environment is now a thing of the past. Ina and I now enjoy trips to the lake and long walks together on and off leash. Ina is living her life to the fullest now that her potential has been unleashed!
